POP-UP : The Ode to Joy vs Paint in Black

I’ve always considered Paint in Black as the Yang of the Ode to Joy’s, like it was its minor version. Joy becomes sadness, brightness, darkness, major evolves in minor…. These two binairy themes, are both composed around 5 notes played almost always in quarter note and both can be considered as hymnes : a classical hymn for one, and rock hymn for the second.

Ode to Joy of Ludwig van Beethoven

Gladly, as His heavenly bodies fly
On their courses through the heavens,
Thus, brothers, you should run your race,
Joyful, like a hero going to conquest.

The Rolling Stones ‘ Paint in Black

I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door I must have it painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facing up when your whole world is black

Each day I propose you a little or great music which belongs to little or great Music
